Brent Hayden, MD has practiced family medicine in Lake City, FL for the past 27 years.
He was born and raised in Atlanta Canada, northeast of the state of Maine, in the maritime Provence of New Brunswick. He grew up in Woodstock, a small town of 5,000 people, who refer to the border between the United States and Canada as “The Line”.
Dr. Hayden’s quest for higher education was pioneered by his 3 older brothers. He followed in their footsteps and completed his undergraduate degree at Mt. Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Chemistry and Philosophy with honors in Biology. Dr. Hayden funded his undergraduate schooling with scholarships, on–campus jobs and summer work as a professional low-level aerial navigator for a team of spray planes “crop dusting” the forests in northern Maine and New Brunswick. In addition he attended the Universite Laval in Quebec City to access a proton accelerator in order to conduct continued research on the movement of sugars in plants.
Dr. Hayden’s pursuit of medicine was spurred on by his brothers Robert and Rick. Robert trained in Canada as a general surgeon then a thoracic surgeon before specializing as a cardiovascular surgeon, capable of performing everything from open-heart surgery to heart transplants. Rick, an ENT surgeon, is Chairman of the Head and Neck Surgery Department for the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dr. Hayden graduated with his Medical Degree (M.D.) from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1982. He went on to complete a rotating internship at the University of Ottawa, in Ontario Canada in 1983. He obtained his Licensure with the Medical Counsel of Canada (LMCC), his License with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick, and his Diplomate of the U.S. National Board of Medical Examiners & Florida License with the Department of Professional Regulations Department of Medicine in 1983. Medical accomplishments aside, Dr. Hayden says his biggest accomplishment of that year was his marriage to his wonderful wife Pam. They had grown up together, started dating in grade 7 and ultimately got married at age 27.
Mrs. Hayden had attended the University of Maine for her undergraduate degree as a speech pathologist and both she and Dr. Hayden were eager to move to the United States to pursue their careers. It took a year for them to become Legal Permanent Residents, but after that they were on their way. They immediately felt comfortable in Lake City and Columbia County. Dr. Hayden feels people’s attitudes, belief systems, morality, work ethic and family values are similar to those with which he was raised. Dr. Hayden says, “I would rather live in a small town where I can be part of the community and contribute rather than in a large city where you are just another doctor in the yellow pages.” It was here in Lake City that Dr. Hayden and his wife decided to raise their family. They are the proud parents of 2 wonderful children, their son Connor and their daughter Mackenzie.
Dr. Hayden feels the seed that grew into his moral and ethical compass was firmly planted from the teachings of his Mother and Father. His personality traits of studying hard, working hard, being the best he can, going the extra mile not the extra inch for others, being fair, treating everyone the same and treating them as if they were family, became more deeply rooted through his marriage to Pam.
With his continuing passion for medicine and the well-being of his patients, Dr. Hayden plans to direct his medical practice to the next level, focusing on delivering comprehensive non-fragmented care in an evolving healthcare system in which this is increasingly difficulty to accomplish.
To this end, he has partnered with SignatureMD. Dr. Hayden sincerely hopes you will join him as he adopts this superior healthcare practice style, focusing on total healthcare, prevention and exceptionally personalized service.
